8 Things to do before you go to college

Now you have given your test of so called iron gates , you might think that the life is gonna be full of excitements just because you won’t have to attend extra long boring hours of coaching and tuition.

The advertisements of educational institutions  with attractive slogans assuring bright future and “ special package for "SEE appeared students" tag on the training and language institutions are greeting all of you those who were trapped in the four walls of “ class 10” morning  till evening.

Of course it’s a wonderful feeling to feel free but there’s a long way to go. Besides text and book materials there are a lot of things to learn that the educational institutions doesn’t actually teach.

A lot of you must be confused on how to spend these long holidays.

If I could back to my initial days of vacation after my SEE and change anything then I would definitely do it. There has been times that I have said to myself, “ God I wish I knew this before”. So here are 8 things to do before you go to college suggestions or let’s say hashtag things that I wish I did before college.

1.Be careful while choosing the subjects

The most often asked question to SEE appeared students would be “ So, what are planning to study in +2”? If you already know what to study then congrats. But if you don’t then you should start doing your research.

The only advice is that don’t decide because of grades. Grades are the last thing you will want to worry about. The grades are only useful while bargaining for admission and feeling proud when your relatives ask about it.

The commercialisation on education has already hypnotised our mind on stratifying students and their abilities on the basis of subject they choose. One of my senior chose to read science because he was topper of the school but later ended up on shifting to management after one year. Of course students with good scores are supposed to study science, right? Not really.

2. Do internship

Internship is basically doing jobs for gaining experience. Some institutions offer paid internship but not all.  Instead of sleeping and watching TV all day, its better gaining some experience. You can try this just to find out your interest as well. And internships and volunteering can actually help you to have a strong bio data in future.
Take training or courses that can enhance your skills and possiblly get even a job.

3. Apply for jobs

Its unlikely that you will get hired without some experience but at least you will learn to make your own CV and know what interviews looks like. It even helps you to improve your communication skills. The motive is not to get the job but have experiences and build your confidence.

4. Start a business

Yup! you read it right. Don’t start imagining to have a multi-national company right now but you can start even a small business collaborating with your friends. For example opening a street food stalls or selling vegetables in the morning and evening. Don’t laugh. Just search an essay you wrote about “ Dignity of Labor”. Yo can get a lot of ideas on starting up any small business but do plannings, research and calculations before. The social media has made it a lot easier for people to set up and promote their business.

5. Attend seminars and exhibitions

It’s a lot better  idea to go outside, observe and interact with real humans. Attend the programs that you are interested in otherwise you might end up on having headache. Just follow your interests and grab anything that you find will suit you.

6. Get updated

Now you are coming into the real world you better read news yourself. No social teacher will inform you about the current events. Make the habit of reading or listening to news. Getting updated about what’s happening in the world and in your country. It’s not compulsory but a responsible thing to do.

7. Befriend books
