The Winter Room

The Winter Room By Gary Paulsen

The Winter Room by Gary

Has a book ever made you nostalgic?

The Winter Room by Gray Paulsen made me nostalgic to my childhood which I spent in my village.

The words in this book smells like earth. It makes you live the country lifestyle. If you have ever lived in the village then nostalgia will definitely hit you. It takes you to the farm, storehouse, stable, fields, and you will love it.

The story surrounds on a family and their daily chores. Eldon and his older brother, Wayne live with his parents and two uncles. The story is narrated by Eldon and there is abundance of poetic touch.

There are humour, stupidity and innocence. Eldon, though he is small, he is not gullible at all. He contradicts with the opinion of grown ups and gives reason on why they are wrong. He is very skeptical on things.

The Winter Room is a place where the family spends evening in the winter, hearing the stories of Uncle David. One story about 'The Woodcutter' makes Wayne really mad.

It makes him lose the trust for his uncle because Wayne is too much into the story of his uncle that he believes that those stories are true. Fortunately, everything settles down when the two brothers find out that their uncle wasn't telling lies.

There is nothing extreme in the novel. I would say it is just a beautiful story worth reading. The plot is simple, and the language is easy to understand. The words are poetic and the theme was nostalgic.

I recommend you to read this book if you want to read something light and beautiful.
