How to choose a faculty after SEE

Take your life on your hands and what happens?
A terrible thing.
No one to blame.

Do you relate with the above person in the picture? I am sure you do. But
First of all, Congratulation for getting through the 'Iron Gate'. It was easy, wasn't it?

I am writing this blog in 2019 and till now SEE examination hasn't been that difficult to pass. Anyway, let's get to the point why you are here. You must be very confused right now because you are given the  responsibility to chose your own future. HMM that's a big and challenging step!
Plus, you are overwhelmed by the options and confused on what faculty to choose.

Before telling you how to choose the faculty after SEE, I would like to share my part of the story. If you are not interested, then scroll down to the main point.

I completed my SEE with A+ and topped my college. I had no idea what to read next. I was irritated by the same monotonous question ;" So, what are you going to study next?" and I didn't want to answer it because I didn't know what to read. To everyone's surprise, I chose humanities. I got admitted to study humanities with A+.
I wasn't sure what I wanted to become in the future but I made sure what I didn't want to do in the future. I didn't want to dedicate my life memorizing the formulas and principals. that I wasn't interested in.

The followings are the 5 tips or things to take care of when you are choosing the best faculty for you:

1) Look upto professionals

Group of doctors involved in surgery

What I mean by this is that if you are thinking about becoming a doctor, then ask those who are already doctors about the efforts they have given to put on a white coat. Observe their professional life and ask yourself
"Will I enjoy doing this?"
" Will I be committed to my profession as they are?".
Get this on your head that there is no shortcut towards  success. If you think you will do all it takes to reach that point then go ahead.

2) Discard you SEE result

Mark sheet with grade B result

That's exactly what you read! It doesn't matter what faculty you chose unless you have minimum requirements for the subject you want to study. The way commercial education system has categorized the faculties on the basis of grades is bullshit. You have B on mark sheet and you want to read science then go fill up the form. Don't listen to anybody. Similarly, you are not obliged to study science if your career doesn't correspond with it.

3) Know your passion

They will say you can't build a career out of your hobby. You can prove them wrong. In today's world, the more narrower niche you have, the better. Chose a path and master it. Be a expert on it! If you know what you enjoy doing the most, then you have a direction. Now, you know where to go.
It's true that the proven path is easier and reliable but it is not the only path.

4) Do not do because your friends are doing it

This is the biggest mistake a person can make. You may have best friends forever in grade 10 and you may be even planning to study in same college and same subject but think again. Most of the friends you make in school won't be in touch after. That's the truth of life. You were close because you were supposed to be together from morning to evening even in the coaching classes. So, when it comes to take your decisions, Be Selfish.

5) Do research

You have a lot of resources and options in terms of courses and institutions. Do your research through internet and talk to the real life professors of colleges. They will be more than happy to answer your questions. We know so little after SEE that we tend to get confused. Even, I was unaware about so many courses until my 12th. Best thing to do is research yourself and prevent yourself from being brainwashed by the advertisements. Read newspapers time and again, because in Nepal, that is still the huge platform for marketing and that's where you get your information.

My advice is stop following the crowd.
It's better regretting for your own decision rather than the decision made by others. You won't be able to blame them, because the choice  to follow, was yours.

Which college to choose?

Any but government if you want to be on your own. Most of the students from private institutions are dependent on others. They need the order of somebody else to get start studying or doing homework.
I am telling this from my own experience. After school, I was so lazy and  had difficulty on controlling my behavior. I was habituated to the deadline set by my teachers and I couldn't do it for myself.
If you are easily prone to the bad circles then I am not advising you to read in government college. In fact, I advise you to read in the most strict college of Nepal.
